SPECIAL SESSIONS
Then and Now Series: A track of lectures will be devoted to discussing the evolution of various core elements of EM/CC to include fluid resuscitation/shock, CC nutrition, management of GDV, anesthesia/analgesia, clinical monitoring and more.
Fundamentals of Emergency Medicine: Special track for the practitioner wanting to review EM/CC principles. Topics include: respiratory failure, heart failure, imaging, ultrasound in the ER/ICU, and many tricks of the trade...
Robert P. Knowles Memorial Lecture: With this being the 20th Anniversary of IVECCS, renowned criticalist Dr Steve Haskins, one of the founders of VECCS, IVECCS and ACVECC will give an interesting and inspiring presentation on how and why we have we progressed to this point in EM/CC.
State-of-the-Art: A full day track on the latest advances in use of new technologies, diagnostics and therapeutics. Use of CT for cardiopulmonary cases and advances in CPCR are among the topics covered.
Abstracts: One full day of Small Animal Abstracts and a half day of Large Animal Abstracts. Awards will be given for the best SA Resident and best LA Abstract. Over 50 papers on original research and clinical studies will be presented at IVECCS 2007.
Practice Management: Two-day lecture program devoted to grief management, client issues/customer service and employee interactions. We will present a special module on benchmark financial data on EM practices. The third day is for a special workshop (LES), “Management 101,” focused on management fundamentals.
Exotic Animal Emergencies: Core lectures, diagnostics and treatment plans presented for avian, and small mammal emergencies. Practical critical care and lab techniques discussed. Wet lab offered as an option for hands-on training.
ACVA Program: American College of Veterinary Anesthesiologists will present two tracks of research abstracts and coordinate the anesthesia/analgesia general program. ACVA will also conduct their certifying exam and hold their annual business meeting.
TECHNICIAN PROGRAM
The most progressive Technician CE programs available with a great mix of lectures, labs, and workshops.
All Lecture Sessions Open to Technicians: Techs and nurses may attend any or all general core sessions they choose for their technician registration. Over 850 technicians attend IVECCS every year.
Core Lecture Series: GI emergency protocols, anesthetic problem cases, ultrasound and endoscopy techniques, shock, pain management, critical care monitoring; equine emergency support and much more.
Special Lab & Discussion Sessions: Advanced catheterization, blood gases; workshops on nurse manager program, CPR, pain management, ventilation and many other small group sessions.
Academy of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Technicians (AVECCT): They will administer their certifying exam to approved candidates prior to the Symposium, and hold their annual business meeting. For future members AVECCT will conduct an info session with mock exam on the last day.
Academy of Veterinary Technician Anesthetists (AVTA) Meeting: This VTS group will participate in the general technician program as well as have special sessions devoted to anesthesia nursing. Information will be provided to those interested in pursuing certification in AVTA.
WET LABS & DRY LABS
Critical Care Techniques Wet Lab: A full day lab for veterinarians to obtain valuable training in vital life saving skills. Individuals in small groups will learn and practice numerous treatment & monitoring procedures essential to successful management of emergent/critical patient.
Ultrasound Wet Lab: The hands-on lab will follow lectures and didactic instruction on how to maximize the use of ultrasound in daily practice. Concentration will be on abdominal techniques.
Echocardiology Wet lab: Learn or refine echo skills; hands on training in small groups; expert instruction.
Ventilation Management Labs: An introductory dry lab and hands-on wet lab will be offered. Learn the basics of ventilatory management, including equipment, settings, complications, etc., in the half-day dry lab. The wet lab will focus on using the various machines, managing long-term ventilation patients and case scenarios.
Avian Emergency Skills: This wet lab will provide hands-on training to prepare the attendee to manage the challenging avian emergencies that face every emergency practice.

Interventional Radiology Dry Lab
LARGE ANIMAL PROGRAM
Core Lecture Series: Focus on pharmacotherapy principles and practice for large animal acute care medicine. Unique large animal program developed including camelids as well as equine.
Combination of lectures, case presentations and panel discussions including:
- Diagnoses & Mgt of upper & lower airway disease in the equine adult and neonate
- Use of rapid ultrasound for acute abdomen
- Laparoscopy in LA emergency/critical care
- Laminitis — series of lectures exploring etiology, trigger points, prevention and treatment
- Neuro disease in the adult horse
- Head & spinal trauma in LA emergency/critical care
Abstracts: High quality program with full line-up of large animal clinical & applied research abstracts. Award presented for best Large Animal Abstract.
